Thanks 4ZZZ, I can die happy now.

4ZZZ had a massive influence on me as a teenager growing up in the suburbs north of Brisbane. 4ZZZ was where I heard Sonic Youth for the first time. Same with Einstürzende Neubauten, Dinosaur Jr, the list goes on and on. It showed there was amazing art being created that was hidden from me within the strict confines of mainstream radio.

4ZZZ also politicised me. It was the first place I heard serious discussion about indigenous issues, women’s rights, LGBTQIA issues, workers rights, and again, the list could go on. For a suburban boy, these discussions were sometimes confusing, sometimes confronting, but constantly mind expanding.

Might sound overblown, but 4ZZZ played a big part in shaping my tastes and views to this day.

Last night, 4ZZZ played one of my songs. I can die happy now.
